The Wise Man's Fear | Italian Edition

“The Wise Man’s Fear,” for Italian publisher Mondadori Libri. I was asked to cover the second book in the Kingkiller Chronicles series by Patrick Rothfuss… The brief: “Felurian.” 🤔 This, at least, made things blessedly simple. Don’t get caught up in the complex narrative, just try and nail this one character. Her chapters are eerie, described as though in a fugue state and full of short anecdotes about her almost feral nature. In the end I’m quite happy with the picture as a picture, though from what I can tell fans of the series in Italy don’t feel the same about its use as a cover - which I suppose I can certainly understand.

The sketches, each focusing on different aspects of Felurian’s strangeness. In the end we went through a process of modifying ‘A’ to end up with a sketch that became the final.
