Murderbot | Alt SecUnit Designs

More work from my time on Murderbot. The font I designed for the chest of our pre-production Murderbot (3rd image) became the seed for the full “bot” alphabet designed by Andrew Campbell, which has been so cool to see all over the show (Andrew also did all the corporate and PresAux logos and so much else). Love how he visuals have been handled all around. Later on the white design was repurposed, adapted and upgraded into the Deltfall Sec Units by Costume Illustrator Jason Pastrana.

PD Sue Chan and I tried some really outlandish designs for Murderbot in the first few weeks of the project, just to push the boundaries and give context and variation to the design space. These didn't get far, but they were fun and weird to draw :)

This was the first image moving in the right direction. I remember everyone feeling like the straps really did something; they said “bondage” (servitude) in a very obvious way. The helmet was then drawing from creatures with false eyes and sparring gear.

Murderbot, Pre-Production Design Turnaround.

This was the initial design direction for Murderbot when the show was picked up by Apple TV. I worked closely with production Designer Sue Chan and the Showrunners Chris and Paul on the design.

A quick gif to help describe some helmet-styling transitions we were tossing around for Murderbot. This was during the really early days, months before casting.

GrayCris Sec Unit | Once the show was greenlit I refined this design from my earlier passes under the guidance of CD LJ Shannon. After handoff the design was further refined and adapted by LJ and artist Jason Pastrana into the version you see on screen!
